Had a Customer Yesterday, Had to Say Something...just not to her

I had a customer come into the store today, and she seemed pretty chill overall. What with the cluster fuck of the current election - forced to pick between two fools because no 3rd party candidate would have gotten enough votes - we started talking about Trump as the new President Elect.

She said that Trump didn't want to be president, those things he said and did (like grabbing women, racist and sexist comments, etc) were because he didn't want to win. He wanted Hillary to win. Okay cool, I work in sales so I try to not talk politics and I am not terribly well informed with politics anyway. I will hear people out though, “Oh so did you vote for Clinton then?”

No.

She hasn't voted in decades.

She must have an excellent reason, so why not vote?

My parents always told me, that they didn't care who I voted for. Just that I voted, and that I know why I voted for or against it. If you don't use your right, it gets taken away.

Anyway, the Jehovah Witnesses had come to her door one day. Instead of sending them away with a strong, “No thank you” she invited them in and asked some questions. Why don't you celebrate holidays? Birthdays? Why don't you vote? They responded with it is God's right to judge or govern or something along those lines and that they didn't get involved with politics for the same reason. I suppose that was enough evidence for this person to throw away her vote for the rest of her life.

And that would be cool if she was a Jehovah’s Witness, which she was not.

And this irritates the hell out of me. There is no reason to not vote, if it's for religious reasons fine. It feels like it is normally just an excuse to be lazy.

“Oh, it won't change anything.”

“Oh, I won't vote for either shit storm.”

“Oh, fight the system man.”

You have no right to complain, and if you want to change this corrupt system by telling the nation you won't vote they will just take the power out of your hands. And then we will have no choice.

Welcome to the US of Dictatorship.

If your pissed about who got elected, and crying on the ground throwing a bitch fit, then fine, show the entire world that as a country we are not grown up enough to deal with the reality we created. Fix the problem. Educate yourself. Hold people accountable. Only by being aware and intelligent about our government and the people who run it can we not be taken advantage of.

Shrugging our shoulders and hoping for better luck next time fixes absolutely nothing.
